David Morison Urban Designer

Biography

David Morison is an urban designer, strategist and advocate for better cities, with a deep commitment to places that are equitable and sustainable.

David has delivered transformative projects for government, developers, not-for-profits and the creative sector. He brings significant experience in design strategy, policy, frameworks and guidelines that are responsive to place and the conditions that support positive change. 

A clear communicator, David’s approach is grounded in research, analysis and engagement to support outcomes that are impactful and centred on the public interest. Having developed close relationships with industry experts, he regularly works in multi-disciplinary teams with leading consultancies.

David has recently contributed to projects for state and local government, as well as the private and education sectors. He was a Senior Associate at Hodyl & Co (2021–2025). David was formerly a Senior Strategic Planner at the City of Melbourne (2016–2021) and an Urban Designer at Yarra City Council (2012–2015). He worked in London and Rotterdam for more than seven years, including with Maccreanor Lavington, Rotterdam (2008-2011).

David is co-founder and editor of To a future city, a not-for-profit initiative documenting the direct, first-hand and personal experience of people who live in our communities and shape our cities.

As a current Urban Design Forum Australia sub-committee member and previous committee member (2022–2024), David has contributed to raising the quality and profile of urbanism in Australia.
